| Das Bruckner Orchester Linz Through its performances at its very own Brucknerhaus (also a mainstay of the Bruckner Festival) and throughout Austria and its tours of the music centres of the world the Bruckner Orchester Linz is the symphony orchestra of Upper Austria, and as such a figurehead for the city of Linz and the federal province of Upper Austria The constant re-examination of Anton Bruckner’s symphonic oeuvre lends the Orchestra a unique position, and yet this message of music is conveyed not just by the Orchestra’s name. Under its Principal Conductor Dennis Russell Davies the Orchestra has undertaken for instance to record all of Bruckner’s symphonies by 2011. Leading conductors and solo instrumentalists have been won over for the concerts of the Bruckner Orchestra. They include conductors Franz Welser-Möst, Simone Young, Bernhard Klee, Karen Kamensek, Leif Segerstam, Serge Baudo and Hans Graf, to mention but a few, and instrumentalists Rudolf Buchbinder, Thomas Larcher, Maki Namekawa and Franz Vorraber (piano), Eliot Fisk (guitar), Renaud Capucon, Beni Schmid, Christian Altenburger (violin), Yuri Bashmet and Kim Kashkashian (viola). Heinrich Schiff, first guest conductor of the Bruckner Orchestra, can be heard with the Orchestra on a regular basis both as a conductor and a soloist from the 2004/05 season onwards. The Bruckner Orchester is also justly proud of its education department MOVE.ON, which has been leading the way in developing workshop-based concerts for children and young people. The Bruckner Orchester, along with the Berlin Philharmonic, was the first orchestra in the German-speaking region to structure its youth work in a separate department based on this model as of December 2001. Each season move.on now reaches some 4,000 children in Upper Austria. The Linz model, embedded in the youth symphony concerts of Upper Austria, the youth activities of the Brucknerhaus and, since 2005, special programme offers throughout the province of Upper Austria, has won international recognition and is featured at conferences as a classic example of youth music work by an orchestra. |

Tours in Poland and Germany. Opening of the Brucknerhaus in Linz. The Orchestra comprises 85 musicians Theodor Guschlbauer becomes Principal Conductor. During his era, which lasts until 1983, the Bruckner Orchester Linz performs 300 concerts, including concerts in Germany, Czechoslovakia, Spain and Hungary. First recording (Bruckner’s Symphony No. 0, Die Nullte). Carl-F. Steiner takes over the management. Roman Zeilinger becomes Principal Conductor. First co-operation with Kurt Eichhorn, who is appointed the Bruckner Orchestra’s honorary conductor in 1989. From 1990 until his death in 1994 a total of six Bruckner symphonies are recorded onto CD under his leadership. Manfred Mayrhofer follows Roman Zeilinger, who takes over as artistic director of the Linz Landestheater. Inaugural concert at the Carinthian Summer Music Festival. International Beethoven Festival in Bonn The Bruckner Orchestra obtains its own statutes The Orchestra comprises 103 members. Concerts in Bulgaria, Spain, Hungary and Egypt (opening of the Cairo Opera House); Salome under Franz Welser-Möst at the Brucknerhaus and in Granada. Martin Sieghart takes charge of the Orchestra as artistic director. The Orchestra expands to 110 musicians. Concerts in the Czech Republic and in Spain. Tour of Germany. M. Gielen, V. At the VOESTival ‘99 the Bruckner Orchestra enjoys resounding successes with Ennio Morricone as composer and conductor, and also at the Linzer Klangwolke on 4 September ‘99, where the Orchestra dazzled its audience of 100,000 spectators in a production by Peter Wolf together with stars of the international pop scene. Concert tours take the orchestra to Parma and Perugia among others; in May 2005 it is the first orchestra to perform in the newly renovated Unionsaal. The motto of the Voestival is “A Tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber”, with soloists such as Julian Lloyd Webber, Elaine Paige, Ramon Vargas, and others. In November the Bruckner Orchestra undertakes its first tour of the US, with eleven concerts in three weeks performed on the East and West coasts, with its Principal Conductor Dennis Russell Davies. As part of the tour Philip Glass’s Symphony No. 8, a work on commission for the Orchestra, is presented in New York. Premiere of the Peter Androsch opera Schwarze Erde as part of the Stifter Year at the Linz Landestheater . Guest performance of Mozart’s Entführung aus dem Serail with the Linz Landestheater in Ferrara and Modena. In May 2006 tour to Stuttgart, Cologne and Düsseldorf with Dante Anzolini. Concerts in Linz with Rudolf Buchbinder, Serge Baudo, Zsolt Hamar, Frank Beermann, Hans Graf, Bernhard Klee, among others. Voestival with Lalo Schifrin as conductor and pianist and with soloists such as James Morrisson, Julia Migenes, and others. As part of the Brucknerfest Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring is performed as a visualised “sound cloud” at the inaugural event.
